MINNEAPOLIS — Cotter tennis players Tony Wan, Jerry Vang, and Ian Modjeski all saw their stellar seasons come to an end at the MSHSL Class A State Tennis Tournament on Friday at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

The doubles team of Wan and Yang kept their season alive on Thursday in the consolation quarterfinals defeating Noah Rupprecht and Tucker Skime of Thief River Falls 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. But they couldn’t keep the same magic going, as Ryan Scherf and Jace Westerbur of Virginia rallied to defeat them in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 11-9.

Modjeski had a similar path to Yan and Wang. After losing his first match on Thursday, the sophomore bounced back with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Tom Have of Cloquet to earn an extra day of tennis. But Nathan Sobotka of St. Paul Academy Summit School was too strong defeating Modjeski in a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 consolation semifinal match.
