HOUSTON, Minn. — A Winona Senior High School student was killed in a car accident Friday afternoon in Houston County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 16-year-old Sophia Allena Moe was a passenger in a car traveling north on Hwy. 76 near Scenic View Drive. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway, according to the report.

Moe wasn’t wearing her seat belt, the report said. The driver and a passenger, both 16-year-old girls, were taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. Their names, injuries and updates on their conditions were not available.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor, according to the report.

Moe was going to be a junior at WSHS. She played clarinet in the band and was on the soccer team.
