None of the bishops’ business

  • 0

I would like to thank Shannon Hazel for her letter in the May 20 Winona Daily News. I too have been a Catholic all my life. I am not only embarrassed by the Church, but very angry with the bishops and clergy for involving themselves in an issue that is none of their business. Regardless of how this vote comes out, there is no law that will force the Catholic Church to perform same sex marriages. That is separation of church and state. It is a civil matter.

The Church has always been against same-sex relationships, but it has always been anti-women as well. The excuse they give for not passing this amendment is that same-sex marriage is not pro-life. Children are not produced. In other words, the only purpose a woman serves is for breeding.

I go to Church very seldom these days, because I am no longer welcome there and because my conscience won’t allow it. To me, child abuse by the clergy is a far greater wrong than two people who love each other wanting to spend their lives together.

To the bishop I say stay out of it. “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
