A look at what’s going on this weekend in and around Winona:

Public library hosts WinCon 2019

Celebrate your favorite comics, anime, fantasy and science fiction stories with a free event at the library this weekend.

The Winona Public Library will host WinCon 2019 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a Doctor Who panel, a lesson on how to build a droid, a visit from the Ghostbusters and a Stranger Things escape room.

There will be crafts for kids in the youth services department, a cosplay costume contest to enter and food trucks outside the library with food for purchase.

And it wouldn’t be a library event without a few great authors and artists: Authors Kathryn Sullivan and Terri Karsten, as well as comic book illustrator Gordon Purcell, best known for his Star Trek work, will be in attendance.

Winona’s annual Dixieland festival

Put a little jazz in your weekend at Winona’s 32nd annual Dixieland festival.

Held Saturday from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on the green on Winona State’s campus, near the Performing Arts Center, the event will feature the Blue Ox Jazz Babies from Mankato, the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band from Minneapolis and Winona’s Gate City Jazz Band, playing throughout the afternoon. Parking and admission are free, food and drinks will be available and attendees are asked to bring their own chairs.

Women’s Resource Center garden tour

Check out some beautiful blooms for a good cause as part of the garden tour this weekend, put on by the Winona Women’s Resource Center.

Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. attendees can visit six local gardens to view their flowers and plants. Addresses can be found on the event’s Facebook page, and tickets for the event can be purchased at any of the gardens themselves. All proceeds from the event go to support direct services offered at the Women’s Resource Center.
