The Winona Steamboat Days Festival Committee recently announced the Military Grand Marshals for the 2019 Grande Parade are Robert Ozmun Sr. representing the American Legion, and Dick Holdorf representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ozmun serviced in the Army from 1951 to 1953 as a clerk typist at regimental headquarters in Straubing, Germany. After he continued as an inactive reserve until his honorary discharge Nov. 10, 1959.
Robert Ozmun Sr. has lived in Winona since he was 8 years old. He graduated from Winona Senior High School. After his military service worked at the Winona Daily News for 39 years in a variety of positions. In February of 1972 he married Patricia Kohner. They have three sons — Robert Jr., John and Tim.
Robert has been a member of the American Legion Post #9 for 53 years and is now an honorary life member. As an active member of Legion Post #9 he as served as the Commander 1999-2000, and is presently their historian.
Dick Holdorf, nephew of famous Winona aviator Max Conrad is a native of Eau Claire, Wis. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and serviced 21 years active duty achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class, CTR1.

Holdorf served at 33 different duty stations worldwide. Included were tours of duty in Korea and later Vietnam where he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. Dick married Ruth Jordan and they have two children, Martha born in Morocco and Matthew born in Japan.
After retiring from active service and settling in Winona, Dick worked for the United States Postal Service for 24 years. Dick was also active in promoting softball as a coach, promoter and umpire. He was inducted into the softball hall of fame in 2010.
Dick and Ruth reside in Winona. He is a valued member of VFW Post 1287, Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 5555 and American Legion Post #9.
