Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the individual whose body was found in a rented motorhome Thursday night in Winona.
Winona police were called to the Shopko parking lot shortly after 10 p.m. by individuals who found a body in an exterior cargo bin on the vehicle, Winona Police Chief Paul Bostrack said. The motorhome was rented from a business in Anoka County, and the renters had stopped in Winona en route to a further destination.
Bostrack said the motorhome is being treated as a crime scene, but stressed that the initial investigation indicates there is no danger to the public in the Winona area.
The body was taken to Mayo Clinic for an autopsy and formal identification, Bostrack said.
The Winona Police Department is investigating the incident, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office.
