A Winona man was so incensed by a cab driver's refusal to play country music Sunday morning, he refused to pay for the trip, scuffled with the driver and ran from police, reports said.
Jesse Paul Benson, 28, of Rochester, Minn., was cited for theft of services, criminal damage to property and fleeing on foot.
According to police, Benson and a woman took a cab from downtown Winona to an area near Mankato Avenue and Belleview Street about 12:20 a.m., Sunday. During the trip, Benson asked the driver to switch the radio station to country music, but the driver refused.
When Benson got out of the cab, he told the driver he would only pay him for half of the fare because the driver was rude. The woman paid her half and said she would go inside to get money for Benson's half.
The driver agreed, but said Benson had to wait by the cab while the woman got the money. When the woman left, Benson said he would not wait and tried to leave. The driver tried to stop him, but Benson resisted, knocking off and breaking the driver's glasses.
The driver let go and called police. Police found him in the rear of the home the woman entered earlier and Benson ran.
Police found and caught him a short distance away.
