No one was injured when a fire destroyed a barn Friday night at 22336 Garvin Heights Road near Winona.

Property owner Danny Pruka said he was working outside when he noticed furniture, such as a couch and chairs, started on fire near a barn.

He tried to douse the flames with water from a hose but when it lost pressure, they called 911.

Wilson Fire Department was initially called out around 9 p.m. and they asked for mutual aid from Ridgeway, Pickwick and Winona fire departments soon after.

The fire spread to the barn, engulfing it in minutes. Black smoke could be seen hovering over Winona as the wind blew it to the north.

Pruka said the barn was mostly empty at the time and didn’t know if any other buildings were damaged.

Garvin Heights Road was closed as firefighters continued to fight the fire past 11 p.m.
