A driver smashed into a pedestrian Saturday night in Winona and drove off, leaving the injured woman lying in the street.
Police are now asking for community tips to track down the driver of the minivan or small SUV. Witness couldn’t give a detailed description of the vehicle, Sgt. Rick Bittle said, likely because they were so shocked by the frightening collision.
A 20-year-old woman was crossing Broadway and Market streets with a group of friends about 11:50 p.m. when the westbound vehicle struck her, taking the woman off her feet. The vehicle continued westbound, Bittle said, stopping briefly for a red light at Main Street, then continuing through the red and fleeing west on Broadway.
The impact broke the woman’s arm, and she was taken by ambulance to Winona Health. Witnesses couldn’t provide police with a license plate number or state origin, or give a detailed description of the vehicle.
