The WRC of Winona’s annual fundraising gala raised over $20,000 at its June 1 event thanks to the generosity of the Winona community.
The 31st annual WRC gala took place on Saturday, June 1. The gala is an annual event hosted by the WRC and Gala Committee to raise funds for the center. The annual gala has been planned for many years by a group of dedicated community members. It began over 30 years ago as a party hosted by Winonans to support the center.
When the WRC had been open for a few years, dedicated supporters decided to begin hosting a gala to raise money for the center. The early iterations of the gala were house parties with costumed themes. Community members Debi Niebuhr, Colette Hyman, Mary Kaye Perrin, Susanne Smith and many others would cook all the food, decorate and invited dozens of friends and neighbors to attend and support the work of the WRC.

Over the years, the Gala has grown into a more formal event, but its grass roots remain strong. This year’s gala featured a dessert auction, silent auction, live auction, live music by Johnson Street Underground and a dance was DJed by Jammin’ with JR.
In total, the event raised just over $20,000 for the WRC.
