Solar tours are occurring across the nation on Saturday, Oct. 2, including two homes in Winona.
The Winona area is home to dozens of solar installations, two of which are on this years’ tour in the Southeast Minnesota region. They include; Tim & Betty’s PV Array at 1449 Ridgewood Dr., and West Burns Valley Solar at 480 West Burns Valley.
The online guide, https://nationalsolartour.org/tour-locations/ to sites throughout the country will list each site’s additional eco-friendly features. Besides the usual maps and details about alternative energy technologies for each site, the guide will list other sustainable features such as urban chickens, electric cars, rainwater storage systems and the like.

The solar tour is an opportunity for people who are thinking about having their own system installed to learn about the benefits and costs of purchasing and installing a renewable energy system. In addition, “solar tourists” can learn about costs, local contractors, and possible pitfalls of owning a system.
For those interested in touring homes outside the Winona area, the Minnesota Renewable Energy Society (MRES) is sponsoring more than two dozen sites throughout Minnesota. More information about these locations, including sites in Rochester, Red Wing, and La Crosse can be seen online: https://www.mnrenewables.org/sustainable-home-tour.
