ROCHESTER, Minn. -Leonard Ralph Schrader, 49, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Leonard was born June 24, 1955, in Rochester to Clarence and Maryland (Balcome) Schrader. He married Sandra Lynn Janzow on Aug. 27, 1977, in Silo, Minn. Leonard was a cook and worked for various restaurants in Rochester. He had been a cook at Bethany Samaritan Heights for the past seven years. He had served in the U.S. Navy. Leonard was an avid Vikings fan, enjoyed watching professional wrestling and fishing. Leonard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; daughters, Kimberly Schrader of Rochester and Danielle (Rodney Smith) Schrader of Eau Claire, Wis; his father, Clarence; stepmother, Marlene Schrader; sisters, Barb Schrader and Shannon Schrader, both of Seattle, Wash; half-sister, Lisa (Richard) Hannenberger of Kasson, Minn; stepsister, Andrea Parkin of Wabasha, Minn; mothers-in-law, Evelyn Janzow of Lewiston, Minn., and Shirley Blockstad; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, brother, David, father-in-law, Elmer Janzow and brother-in-law, Keith Janzow.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Silo, with the Rev. William Meilner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. PLAINVIEW, Minn. - The Funeral Mass for Father Louis G. Cook will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Plainview, with his fellow priests officiating. Burial will be in St. Joachim's Catholic Cemetery in Plainview, with military graveside rites by the Plainview American Legion.
Father Cook, 80, a senior priest of the Diocese of Winona, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, of an apparent heart attack while on a mission trip in Honduras.
Louis George Cook was born July 14, 1924, in Plainview, Minn., the son of John and Lena (Markus) Cook. He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 14, 1946, to March 13, 1949. He then studied classics at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary from 1950 to 1952 and philosophy from 1952 to 1954. He then studied theology at St. John's Seminary in Collegeville from 1954 to 1958. Father Cook was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Winona on May 31, 1958, at St. John's Church in Rochester, Minn., by the Most Rev. Edward A. Fitzgerald.
Father Cook's many pastoral assignments began as an assistant at St. Mary's Church in Winona in 1958; St. John Vianney, Fairmont in 1962; administrator, Mater Dolorosa, Delavan, and assistant at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Easton, in 1966; chaplain, St. Teresa's College, Winona in 1969; associate pastor, Queen of Angels, Austin, 1970; pastor of Holy Trinity, Litomysl, in 1970; pastor Crucifixion, La Crescent, 1976; pastor, Holy Trinity, Rollingstone and Immaculate Conception, Oak Ridge in 1982; pastor, St. Charles Borromeo, St. Charles, and St. Aloysius, Elba, in 1990. Father Cook was an elected member of the Presbyteral Council and served six years. He retired to senior priest status on July 1, 1998. In 2000, he served several months as administrator of St. Augustine in Austin.
Father Cook was an honorary member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Rochester, Minn., and a 28-year member of the American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent, Minn.
Survivors include one sister, Isabel Schneider of Los Alamos, N.M.; one brother-in-law, George Eversman of Plainview, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cook of Plainview and Neola Cook of Wabasha, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Anna Eversman; three brothers, Joseph, George and Albert.

LAKE CITY, Minn. - The funeral service for Emery E. Burfeind will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, Lake City, Minn. with Pastor Bruce Stam officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Lake City.
Mr. Burfeind, 64, of Lake City was found dead at his home of natural causes on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
Emery Eugene Burfiend was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Lake City to Ernest H. and Ella L. (Gnotke) Burfeind. He attended elementary school in Lake City and graduated from Wabasha High School in 1959. Emery spent his entire lifetime in the Lake City area. He worked in the blacktop industry most of his lifetime and also part time at Huettl's Locker and Dressing Plant in Lake City. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1960s. Emery enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four-wheeling.
Survivors include two sisters, Marjean (Delbert) Severson of Winona and Jeanette Burfeind of Woodbury, Minn.; and one brother, Wayne (JoAnn) Burfeind of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, Lake City, and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.
