THANK YOU
SUGAR LOAF FORD LINCOLN
& CHRYSLER WINONA!

The Winona Area Chamber of Commerce and the Winona Chamber Ambassadors would like to
extend the biggest THANK YOU to Sugar Loaf Ford Lincoln and Chrysler Winona for their
larger-than-life donation of a brand-new food trailer! The Chamber Ambassadors have been
looking for a new home for their long-standing Brat Booth down at Winona Steamboat Days; Sugar
Loaf Ford Lincoln and Chrysler Winona heard about this and generously gifted the Winona
Chamber of Commerce with a brand-new food trailer to be used for the Ambassadors Brat
Booth, as well as other endeavors throughout the year. We cannot thank them enough for this
donation and are eager for everyone to come and see it in action at this year’s Steamboat Days!

Sarah Cates, DO, joined the Winona Health medical staff and will care for people in
the Emergency department. “Emergency Medicine requires that we’re always ready
to care for the variety of issues patients come in with,” said Cates. “What’s most
rewarding is being able to help someone who is at their most vulnerable, and maybe
having their worst day, by providing the care they need and connecting with them
beyond the medical issue that brought them in.” Dr. Cates earned her Doctor of Osteopathic
Medicine degree, graduating with honors from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic
Medicine (VCOM) in Blacksburg, Virginia, and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at
Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine
by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Cates also has a doctorate in Philosophy from
Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia. Dr. Cates’s experience includes serving as an
ABWE International missionary at the Hospital of Hope in Mango Togo, West Africa, where she was
initially a World Medical Mission volunteer. She has also cared for patients at Kaiser Permanente in
Kennesaw, Georgia.
An end to the coronavirus pandemic still isn’t quite in reach, and Winona State
University graduate and Wisconsin native Jackie Henderson has joined the Winona
Area Public Schools team to help lead the way through the hardest hours yet to
come. Henderson is the district’s new COVID-19coordinator, which means she is
present in the community and ready to help with contact tracing WAPS students and
staff, following up with close contacts, and setting up bi-monthly staff COVID-19 screenings. The
screenings she helps conduct are possible due to the Minnesota Department of Health and
Minnesota Department of Education, which supports the screenings in the hopes of finding any
possible asymptomatic staff cases before they expose the district’s communities. Her experience is
packed, with her having planned an educational program for the American Red Cross, helped with
COVID-19 programing with Bridges Health Winona, and completed an internship that was
COVID-19 response related with Live Well Winona and Winona Health.

“Being authentic does not mean you have to
follow your every impulse or express every
thought. It's about being in full choice about
your actions.” This was one of the key thoughts
written by Mary Abbajay, author of Managing
Up, and our February Speaker for the Winona
Area Young Professionals (YP). Living in such a
“digital world” for the past year has not only
changed our personal perspective, but also the
workplace perspective.
