MINNEAPOLIS - One goal in the 14th minute of an MSHSL Class A third-place game ended the La Crescent High School girls soccer team's season with a loss.
Jessie Ryan used an assist from Emily Johnson to give Cloquet a 1-0 victory over the Lancers at the Metrodome on Tuesday.
La Crescent (18-5-1) put four shots on goal, but none of them got by goalkeeper Kaitrin Rathe, who recorded her 11th shutout.
"They had a nice combination to free up that play," La Crescent coach Ryan Raufus said of the Lumberjacks (16-4-1). "We had a couple decent chances in the second half, but we didn't get anything out of them."
Raufus said it was tough for his team to turn around and play again after losing its semifinal game in overtime on Monday.
But he said the sense of accomplishment for his fourth-place team was there.
"We had a fantastic season," Raufus said. "We were able to achieve what we wanted and more.
"The girls wanted to get to the Metrodome, and they did. They came extremely close to playing for a championship."
