We spent a wonderful, but all-too-brief visit in Winona recently and want to share a first-time visitors perspective of your city and Winona State University.
We’ve traveled and performed in many states and cites, many countries and islands during the past
50 years, but we can’t recall any hosts that welcomed us and treated us as warmly as we experienced in Winona.
People called us by name and thanked us for coming and for performing at WSU. Although we were only representing Mel and Lois Kirkland, it was almost as if we were the benefactors, who had donated $1.25 million to WSU. It was as warm, genuine and endearing as what we like to call the “aloha spirit” in Hawaii.
We cherish the memories of the few days at WSU, and we have many things to remind us of that hospitality, including new friends. We can’t say enough good about WSU’s new President Scott Olson, Vice President Jim Schmidt, Peggy Walters and their staffs. They are WSU treasures and truly great representatives of Winona and the state of Minnesota.
Sharing our aloha, music and hula with Winona was our pleasure.
It was our first visit to your city, and we were impressed also with the beauty of Winona and southeastern Minnesota.
We’ll be back.
