A semi accident about a half-mile from the top of Stockton Hill on U.S. Highway 14 near Winona closed the highway for more than five hours while investigators and clean-up crews handle the wreck.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes on Hwy. 14 were closed from about 8 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m., according the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

According to the state patrol, a westbound semitrailer lost control near Stockton Hill on Hwy. 14, tipped over and slid down the road. The semi struck two cars. The drivers of the semi and both cars each suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the semi was able to get out and call authorities using his cell phone, according to police scanner reports.

According to the state patrol, the semi was carrying construction debris, which spilled onto the road. Crews spent hours cleaning the debris, which was environmentally hazardous.
