Car windows reported broken in La Crosse

La Crosse, Wis. - Police received 19 reports of property damage - mostly broken car windows. Calls began coming in about 10:30 p.m. Thursday and continued into Friday afternoon. Police say it appears that vandals shot marbles from a slingshot. Officers had no suspects Friday; reports still were coming in.

Police are looking for suspects after a string of car windows were smashed this week in Winona.

At least a dozen cars were damaged Wednesday and Thursday, after vandals used what appeared to be marbles shot from a slingshot or “wrist rocket” to break windows, according to the Winona Police Department.

The suspects struck mostly in the mid-afternoon and early evening on Wednesday and Thursday, and have damaged cars in a wide area of Winona.

Police received the first report at 3:08 p.m., Wednesday in the 850 block of Gilmore Avenue, and continued to receive reports for more than 24 hours in areas such as the 450 block of East Fourth Street and the 200 block of Laird Street.

Police urge residents to contact the Winona Police Department if they notice suspicious activity or hear glass breaking, and to be aware of suspicious vehicles driving slowly through neighborhoods.

Contact the Winona Police Department by calling (507) 457-6302 or go to 201 W. Third St.
