A Winona man pleaded guilty Monday to several drug charges, admitting he sold a confidential informant prescription drugs in fall 2008.
Matthew John Polus, 24, was convicted of four felonies, including third-degree sale of hydrocodone and two fifth-degree counts of selling clonazepam. An additional third-degree sale of hydrocodone charge was amended to fifth-degree possession as part of a plea deal.
Polus admitted he sold the prescription drugs to a confidential informant on several occasions in October and November. He was on probation for felony check forgery at the time.
On Monday, Judge Jeff Thompson said Polus could be released from custody pending his Oct. 22 sentencing. Polus has been in Wisconsin and Minnesota jails since Feb. 17, and his court-appointed attorney, Karin Sonneman, said she will ask Thompson to give Polus credit for time served when he is sentenced.
In other court news, a Galesville, Wis., woman admitted Monday that she forged prescriptions in June 2008 while she worked as a pharmacy technician in Winona.
Lori Jane Schmidt, 42, pleaded guilty to third-degree possession of 50 or more dosages of a narcotic mixture. Three other drug charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
According to the criminal complaint, a manager of a Winona pharmacy called police in July, believing Schmidt was involved in "misconduct" regarding 2,000 missing tablets of hydrocodone.
Schmidt admitted in court Monday she forged a prescription to add an additional refill of 60 hydrocodone pills for a friend. She will be sentenced Oct. 22 by Thompson.
Schmidt no longer works at the pharmacy.
