A Minnesota State Highway Patrol team was on the scene of a crash 2 1/2 miles south of Rollingstone, Minn., about 4 p.m. Monday that left one Winona teenager dead and two other area residents injured.
Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said Blake Aaron Eckert, 18, was killed in the crash on Winona County Road 25, near Rollingstone.
Two other teenagers were injured in the single-car accident.
Eckert was the driver of the car and was wearing a seat belt, but was pinned in the wreck.
Jonathan Joe Light, 24, of Winona was transported to Winona Health's hospital by ambulance. Brandon Lee Lockwood, 18, of Rollingstone was transported to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., via helicopter.
Brand said the car rolled into a steep embankment along the road, hitting a tree.
Brand said the cause of the crash is still under investigation and that's why he requested the state's accident reconstruction team to help determine the cause. The county's medical examiner had also been called to the scene.
He said the three were traveling between Lewiston and Rollingstone when the accident happened.
Brand hopes to have more information about the crash in the next 24 hours.
