Spend an evening with Doug Ward, an 89-year-old World War II vet, tonight at 7 p.m. at Winona State University.

Doug is a survivor of many missions as a belly turret gunner on B-17 bombers flying missions out of England to targets throughout Europe. People will recognize this duty as the most frighteningly awesome task possible when they realize he flew in the belly turret without a parachute, and in the event of a power failure of the turret and landing gear, he would be the first part of the airplane to touch down. Doug relates his experiences with a colorful honesty that deserves both reverence and respect.

He will speak in rooms 223-225 at WSU's Kryzsko Commons. Park in the lot at Huff and Howard Streets. Enter the main entrance on Huff Street, and follow the signs. There is no charge for admission and light refreshments will be provided.

Doug’s presentation is sponsored by the Winona chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, EAA Chapter 919, the “Max Conrad Chapter.”
