The Mass of Christian Burial for Paul A. Nicklay, 73, of Stewart-ville, Minn., was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013. Services were at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Simpson, Minn., with Father Matt Fasnacht officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Nicklay died at St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, Minn., on Friday, June 7, from COPD. Paul had resided at St. Lucas Care Center for the past two years, after being transferred from the Stewartville Care Center.
Paul Alfred Nicklay was born March 16, 1940, in Pleasant Grove township, Olmsted County, Minn., to Alfred and Garna (King) Nicklay. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and Chatfield schools, graduating from Chatfield High School in 1958. He attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, and was employed by Kirsch Fabric Co. in Minneapolis, and Dallas, Texas, for many years. Paul returned to Minnesota and lived on the Nicklay family farm in Pleasant Grove, where he helped care for his parents. He was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards, board games and the dice game, Farkle. He loved time spent with all his family, especially his many nieces and nephews.
Paul is survived by two sisters and three brothers, Suzanne (Wayne) Idso of Rochester, Minn., Allen (Nancy) Nicklay of Eden Prairie, Minn., Calvin (Deborah) Nicklay of Osage, Iowa, Rosemary (Reggie) Oeltjen of Stewartville and Bruce (Lori) Nicklay of Winona; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault, or to the Stewartville Care Center.
