Ronald D. Giemza, 64, of Winona passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at his home.
He was born April 15, 1946, in Winona to Peter and Ella (Kokott) Giemza.
He married Bonnie Repinski, and they later divorced.
Ron honorably served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era, and he was very proud of his service.
He was a self-employed contractor who did window and siding installation.
Ron was a member of the VFW, the Mississippi Sportsmen’s Association, and the Eagles Club. He will be remembered as an all-around sportsman and outdoorsman, who enjoyed golfing, shooting pool, bow and rifle hunting — especially for deer, bear, and duck.
Ron was a good-hearted person who had a great sense of humor, was quick-witted, and always had a funny joke or story to share with others.
Ron is survived by his daughters, Shelly Giemza of Bloomington, Minn., Stacy (Mike) Costello of Winona; grandchildren, Joseph, Megan, and Colleen Costello; siblings, Albin Giemza of Milwaukee, Rosemary Sworsky of Berwyn, Ill., Elaine (Joe) Long of North Prairie, Wis., Jo Ann Wieczorek of Fountain City, Wis., Pat Ahrens of Winona, and Sis (Gordon) Long of Mukwanago, Wis.; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Niehaus will officiate.
Following the service, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post No. 1287 will provide full military honors.
Ron will be laid to rest in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
