ROCHESTER, Minn. — Funeral services for Ralph E. Treder, 88, of Rochest-er, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Rance Settle officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 5, from
5 to 8 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Ralph was born Aug. 29, 1920, in St. Paul. His parents were Edward
and Bertha (Matzke) Treder. Ralph died Dec. 29, 2008, at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester.
Ralph attended Lewiston schools and married Edna L. Dorn on Sept. 28, 1946, at Silo Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Lewiston, Minn. The couple farmed in the Lewiston/Bethany area from 1946 to 1965. In 1965, they moved to Rochester, where Ralph continued to work for the Mayo Clinic until his retirement in 1985. During that time, he worked as a custodian for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rochester.
Ralph was an active church member, singing in the church choir and as a church elder. He enjoyed fishing — especially fly-fishing and tying his own flies — horseshoes, darts, woodcarving and electronics.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Pagelkopf of Rochester, Donna Treder of Lake City, Minn., and Pamela (Timothy) Sass of Maple Grove, Minn.; two grandchildren, Timothy Pagelkopf and Andrew Sass; three great-grandchildren, Jaeden Cowell, and Jessica and John Pagelkopf; one brother-in-law, Hilbert (Marti) Dorn of Midlothian, Va.; and three nieces and many cousins. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna, on Sept. 2, 2006; one grandson; one great-grandchild and a son-in-law.

Paul Kenneth ‘PK’ Forsyth

HOUSTON, Minn. n Paul Kenneth “PK” Forsyth, 84, of Houston died Mon-day, Dec. 29, 2008, at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wis., following a lengthy illness.
Paul was born Aug. 12, 1924, to Mayme (Schubert) and Henry Forsyth. He graduated from Houston High School in 1941. Paul attended the College of Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 17, 1942, and served in the South Pacific, including waiting for rescue in the ocean after his PT boat was torpedoed. Following a lengthy hospital stay, he was discharged Aug. 23, 1944.
Paul farmed with his mother and brother in Looney Valley. He worked at various jobs, including at the Illinois State Guard Service in Jolliet, Ill. Paul lived in the family home at 214 S. Lincoln Street in Houston. He also lived in Caledonia, Minn., until he entered the VA Medical Center in 2002.
Paul was a member of the Rushford Lions Club and the North Presbyterian Church in La Crosse, Wis.
Paul is survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Alton C. Forsyth.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Skogen officiating. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home Saturday. Friends and family are invited for coffee at the Money Creek United Methodist Church in Money Creek after the committal service. Paul always believed that this social gathering was an important part of a funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to be directed to the Houston County Historical Society.

Paul William Weldon

UTICA, Minn. — Paul William Weldon, 79, of Utica passed away quietly at the Golden Living Center-Whitewater in St. Charles on Dec. 29, 2008.
Paul was born May 28, 1929, in St. Paul to Lorita R. Farris and Paul Franklin Weldon. He grew up and attended school in Madelia, Minn. Paul worked at several area farms before being drafted into the Army, where he traveled stateside and in Europe. During the Korean War, he was certified in military mountain assault climbing on Pikes Peak and military skiing in Austria. After being honorably discharged, Paul received his refrigeration and boilers license while working in Madelia. He continued in this profession for over 30 years, most of those spent in St. Charles.
After retiring, Paul worked as a maintenance supervisor for several apartment and condo complexes in the Twin Cities, where he earned his swimming pool license.
Paul enjoyed family vacations, weekend drives in the country and fishing outings with the kids. He also enjoyed sports and coached flag football for three seasons. He was a member of the American Legion Post 190 for over 40 years.
Paul married Gloria C. Nundahl on Oct. 9, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm, Minn. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year at the St. Charles community center.
He is survived by wife, Gloria; five children, Kathleen R. Nelson of Savage, Minn., Susanne G. (Leonard) Clark of Eagan, Minn., Barbara J. (Thomas) Hoffecker of Manassas, Va., Ronald W. Weldon of Middle River, Md., and Patricia L. (Scott) Solheim of Minnesota City; five granddaughters, Angela Nelson of Savage, Minn., Melissa (Dan) Hicks of Savage, Dominica Weldon of St. Charles, Sheri Clark of Eagan and Morgan Weldon of Minnesota City; seven great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Bernard (Barb) Kunz of Madelia, Dominic (Mary) Kunz of Madelia, Gregory Kunz of Madelia, Vincent (Allie) Kunz of Lafayette, Ind., and Ruthann (Allan) Hacker of Morgan, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Michael; and sister, Katherine Kunz.
The funeral Mass for Paul will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hoff Funeral Home-St. Charles Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.
A rosary will be said at the funeral home at 5:15 p.m. Friday. The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War posts will conduct military honors following services at the church.

Ray John Schubert

GALESVILLE, Wis. — Ray John Schubert, 56, of Galesville died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.
He was born Jan. 20, 1952, in La Crosse, to Carl and Margaret (Gibson) Schubert. Ray was a 1970 graduate of Trempealeau High School. On Oct. 26, 1974, he married Mary Smith at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Galesville and together they celebrated 34 years of marriage. He was a founding member of the G-E-T First Responders and a member of the Galesville Area Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, 17 of that as an officer, including five years as the fire chief.
He worked for Westfalia Surge for over 30 years in many capacities, most recently as a manufacturing engineer until his illness no longer allowed him to work.
Ray was a jack-of-all trades. He could design and build almost anything you brought to him, whether it be woodworking, machinery or to design a room. His grandson, Ethan, often was heard saying, “Give it to Grandpa, he can fix it, he can fix anything.”
Survivors are his wife, Mary; a daughter, Brooke Rae Schubert of Columbia, Mo.; a son, Jonathan Ray Schubert of Trempealeau, Wis.; Jon’s son, Ethan Kyle Schubert; brothers, Henry (Marion) Schubert of Neosho, Mo., Lee (Penny) Schubert of Galesville; sisters, Mary (Mike Guy) Borreson of Sparta, Wis., and Anita (George) Hegard of Winona; a sister-in-law, Marie Schubert of Trempealeau and their families.
He is further survived by Mary’s family, Brookes and Dorothy Smith, Pat and Gerry Eichman, Kent Jacobson, Kathy Kujak, Bonnie and Bill Truax, Becky and Bob Harris, Sandy and Dave Salsman, Mike (Nancy King) Smith, Dan and Paula Smith and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don Schubert; a niece, Billi Jo Schubert; and a sister-in-law, Barb Jacobson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Galesville, with Father Edmund Doerre officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Centerville, Wis.
Friends may call at the church Friday, Jan. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a liturgical vigil at 7:30 p.m.

Joey Lee Mundt
March 7, 1973-Dec. 30, 2008
UTICA, Minn. — Joey Lee Mundt, 35, of Minnesota City and formerly of Utica died Tuesday morning at his home.
Joey was born March 7, 1973, in Winona to Larry and Lynn (Ellinghuysen) Mundt and graduated from Lewiston-Altura High School. Joey loved the farm and his Farmall 1206. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding a four wheeler, showing
off his classic 1969 Chevelle, bowling and collecting toy cars and tractors.
He is survived by his parents, Larry and Lynn Mundt of Utica; four siblings, Casey (Erica) Mundt of Utica, Andy (Julie) Mundt of Utica, Lynda (Ken) Troke of Rollingstone and Lisa (Jason) Hoover of Rochester; his maternal grandmother, Lois Ellinghuysen of Lewiston; and five nephews, Tanner, Sam, Owen, Orion and Wesley. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Florence Mundt; and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Ellinghuysen.
When Joey was younger, he loved to joke and had a great sense of humor. He loved the Lord and is now walking with his Father in Heaven.
Funeral services for Joey will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lewiston Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in Worth Cemetery, rural Utica.
