INDEPENDENCE, Wis. — Eunice Blaha, 79, of Independence passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, after a courageous five-year battle with multiple myeloma at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall, Wis.
Eunice was born Nov. 23, 1929, in the township of Arcadia, Wis., to Rudy and Monica (Milek) Klink. On Nov. 11, 1947, she married Everett Blaha at Our Lady of Perpetual Health Church in Arcadia. After their wedding, Eunice and Everett started farming in Independence, where they lived their lives together and raised a family.
After her children had grown, Eunice went to work at Lyga’s Store and then at Myers Bakery, both in Independence, and finally at the Arcadia Hatchery.
Eunice was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and its women’s organization. She was also an active member of the Wednesday Senior Citizens Group. During her lifetime, Eunice’s character and personality had shown like a diamond to those she loved, and like a diamond, she was a multifaceted individual who was many things to many people.
One of the many things that brought joy to Eunice’s day-to-day activities was watching and feeding wild birds that lived around her and Everett’s home. Her particular favorites were the bluebirds that showed up every spring. She also had a passion for Precious Moments figurines. She was very much loved by her friends and family and will always be remembered for her five best attributes. Those being that she was kind and generous, thoughtful and loving, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Eunice is survived by her husband, Everett; two children, James (Barbara) Blaha of Maple Plain, Minn., and Kathy (Aaron Hawkinson) Hegge of Fridley, Minn.; two grandchildren, Chad (Cheryl Olson) Blaha and Tiffany (John) Holscher; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Christopher Holscher; a brother, Delbert (Joan) Klink of Arcadia; two sisters, Phyllis Stuettgen of Arcadia and Mary Jane (Romaine) Tollefson of Osseo; two half-sisters, Joyce Kotlarz and Sharon (Evarist) Schock, both of Arcadia; a half-brother, Rudy (Barb) Klink Jr. of Cochrane; a brother-in-law, Jim Elliott of Visalia, Calif., and a sister-in-law, Lilah Klink of Arcadia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert; infant granddaughter, Sherry Blaha; a brother, Roland Klink; a sister, Marjorie Elliot; and her stepmother, Rose Klink.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. David C. Kunz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by a rosary at the funeral home.

WAUMANDEE, Wis. — Lorena I. Stanton, 74, of Waumandee died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer while her loving family was at her side.
She was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Porcupine, Wis., to Darrel and Lavina (Hill) Hoyt.
She attended and graduated from Arkansaw High School, graduating with the class of 1953.
On June 15, 1953, Lorena was united in marriage to Claire J. Stanton at Arkansaw, Wis.
Lorena was employed at the Waumandee Country Store for many year and at the locker plant for 29 years.
Lorena loved cooking, baking, knitting afghans and making quilts for her family, especially for her grandchildren. She was an active faithful life member of the VFW Post 10406 in Cochrane, Wis.; she served as president for seven years until her illness forced her to not be able to take care of her duties. Her dedication to the VFW spilled over to several district appointments. She was a U.S. history and civil war buff, traveling to many war re-enactments.
Lorena’s house was a home made of love and was opened to all; even her children’s spouses found her to accept them with open arms. She always encouraged her children to remain close through thick and thin and to appreciate “family values.”
Lorena will be sadly missed by her husband of the past 55 years, Claire of Waumandee; five children, Gordon (Becke) Stanton of Schoepps Valley, Wis., Mary Lou (Brad) Stewart of Fountain City, Wis., Penny Singer of Winona, Julie (Brian Diekman) Stanton of Winona and James “Stumpy” (Victoria) Stanton of Fountain City; nine grandchildren, Robin Burros, Nick (Heidi) Stanton, Cassie (Tom) Skwiot, Mandy (fiance Darren Anderson) Singer, Matt (fiancee, Tina Himlie) Stanton, Jessica Singer, Michael (spiral friend, Jeanne Englerth) Stanton, PFC. Steven Stanton and James Stanton; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda (Orville) Lafferty of Knapp, Wis.; and also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Opal and Donald Anderson, and a nephew, Daniel Anderson, preceded Lorena in death.
A memorial funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fountain City, with the Rev. Mark Ferriss officiating.
A memorial gathering to honor and celebrate the life of Lorena will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Cochrane Chapel, and again one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. The VFW Auxiliary Post 10406 will conduct service of farewell at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. — Peter A. Kampa, 89, of Independence died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at his home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, Wis., to Andrew and Sophia (Klimek) Kampa. He married Esther Slabik on Oct. 21, 1942, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence.
The couple farmed in Wickham Valley and Traverse Valley for many years. They retired and moved to Independence in 1981.
Peter was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and served on the parish council at the time the new school was built. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Counsel 2787. He enjoyed gardening, gambling and dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; six children, Robert (Kathy) Kampa, Margaret (Duane) Pape, Bill (Debbie) Kampa, Doris (Marc) Mish, all of Independence, Ann (Roger) Reichwein of Arcadia and Carolyn (Kevin) Stark of Combined Locks, Wis.; sister, Connie Slaby of Arcadia; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Peter was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Anna Stark and David Mish; two sisters, Kate Skroch
and Polly Puchalla; and a brother, Dominic Kampa.

MABEL, Minn. — Verna L. Burreon, 95, of Mabel died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa, with the Rev. Matt Larson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Patricia L. Sweet, 76, of Winona died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

ARCADIA, Wis. — Norma Milinda Bartsch, 94, of Arcadia died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
Norma’s wishes were to have no services. Burial will be in Arizona.

Kathleen Jo Wiltgen, 21, of Winona and formerly of Mabel, Minn., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, in La Crosse, Wis.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winona. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the visitation commons at the church.
