State law requires dog shelters to be moisture- and wind-proof and big enough for the dog to fit inside while also allowing the retention of body heat.
The solid floor must be at least two inches off the ground and must include bedding material of hay, straw, cedar shavings, blankets or something equivalent.
The entrance to the shelter must also be covered by a wind-proof flexible material or self-closing swinging door between Nov. 1 and March 31.
Failure to meet the requirements could result in a petty misdemeanor fine of up to $300.
