Olive I. Buswell, 95, of Winona died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Sauer Memorial Home, Winona.
Olive Isobelle was born Dec. 15, 1912, in Ogilvie, Minn., to Raymond and Hilda (Sterner) Church. On Dec. 20, 1935, she married Roy H. Buswell in Winona, and he preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1990. She was formerly employed by Red Owl Stores and Albrecht’s IGA as a cashier/clerk. Olive was a member of McKinley United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and was active in the church circles. She also enjoyed the Tuesday Card Club at Westfield Golf, Winona, and the Minne-sota City Baptist Aid.
Olive is survived by a son, Earl (Georgine) Buswell of Winona; four grandchildren, Laurie (Erik) Andersen, Shelley (Don) Addington, Tom (Diane) Buswell, and Tim (Sue) Buswell; 11 great-grandchildren, Bryn (Andy) Hall and Dain Andersen; Ben, Taylor, Spencer and Cooper Addington; Alex and Erin Buswell; and Griffin, Grace and Gwen Buswell; a brother, Russell Church of Minnesota City, Minn.; a sister, Gladys (Howard) Volkart of Minnesota City; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.
Services to remember Olive will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona, with the Rev. Kathleen Zielinski officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Minnesota City.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
The family prefers memorials be directed to McKinley United Methodist Church.

Louis Edelschein
Aug. 24, 1925 — Nov. 18, 2008
Louis Edelschein, 83, of Winona died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Louis was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in October 1942 and was honorably discharged in November, 1956. He served on the USS Phoenix in the Central and Southwest Pacific, Philippines and China. On July 22, 1968, he married Geraldine Schneider in Moorestown, N.J., and this past summer, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9, Winona, and was known as the Mayor of Conrad Drive.
Lou will be fondly remembered by his two-legged and four-legged friends on Conrad Drive. He always had time for a good conversation with neighbors and a pat on the head and a treat for his many dog friends.
Louis is survived by his wife, Geraldine; two sons, Rob and Steve Edelschein; a daughter, Nancy Mumma; two sisters, Nancy and Sue; other children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
The visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, with a time of sharing beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The interment services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, with military burial rites provided by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post 9, Winona.
The family prefers memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Frances H. Lettner

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. — Frances H. Lettner, 86, of Fountain City died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis., with her daughter at her side.
Frances Herold was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Fountain City to Henry and Wilhelmina (Hunger) Herold. On Oct. 14, 1941, she married Leonard Lettner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 2003.
Frances farmed on Canada Ridge with her husband until 1966. In 1969, she attended Winona VoTech and earned a LPN degree, in spite of the fact that they told her that she was too old. Frances wrote the highest state exam of her class. She worked at Community Memorial Hospital in OB/GYN until retiring in 1995. After retiring, she bought the Corner Store in Fountain City, where she expanded the upstairs into a tourist accommodation and operated the downstairs offering coffee and antiques until having a stroke Aug. 14, 2000. Frances was a central figure in the town and was beloved by all. She then lived with her daughter, Jo, in Onalaska, Wis., until shortly before her death. Although the stroke was devastating, she greeted every day with dignity and a special smile.
She was a lifelong area resident, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City Business Club and the Arcadia Country Club. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, nature and traveling and was a long-time supporter of the Fountain City Summer Theater.
Frances is survived by her children, Henry (Sally) Lettner, Thomas (Diane) Lettner, Leonard “Hap” (Carol) Lettner, all of Fountain City, George (Susan) Lettner of Winona, Jo Lettner of La Crosse and Susan (Greg) Wise of Powell, Wyo.; a daugher-in-law, June Lettner of Woodbury, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hermina Boland of Winona and Kathryn Russell of Calimesa, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Michael Lettner; grandson, Noah Michael Wise; and a brother, Andrew Herold.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, with the Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fountain City.
Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, and one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday. There will be a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the church.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Violet Kensmoe, 85, of St. Paul, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Augustana Chapel View Nursing Home, Hopkins, Minn.
Violet was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Eau Claire to Ralph and Millie (Witt) Back. She married Wallace Kensmoe on June 25, 1947, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Whitehall. He died July 3, 1999.
Vi attended grade school in Whitehall and graduated from Independence High School. She was an abstract clerk for Ramsey County, Minn., for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vi was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Dorothy Back; and a brother, Maynard Back.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Whitehall, with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Whitehall. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Edison Funeral Home, Independence, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elisabeth A. (Betty) Eschbach, 86, of Winona and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Mildred C. (Modjeski) Ferguson, 83, of Rochester died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at her residence at Northgate Plaza, Rochester.
A funeral service will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester. Visitation will be held today from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
