Wilmer ‘Mick’ McKinley
Wilmer “Mick” McKinley, 98, a resident of Watkins Manor, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital.

Wilmer was born June 23, 1910, in Denver to Ernest and Jane (Mason) McKinley. He graduated from high school in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army Cavalry. He was a master tool and die maker.

He married Lillian Garkow on Jan. 5, 1936, in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1987. He married Frediette (Grundquist) Foote on June 24, 1989, at Central United Methodist Church, Winona. She preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2007.

Wilmer was a member of McKinley United Methodist Church. He was a guitar player when he was younger. He was a harp maker and did oil paintings and woodworking.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by an infant sister; and brother, Clyde.

He is survived by son, William S. (Linda) McKinley of Canoga Park, Calif.; daughter, Barbara (Donald) Kough of Winona; three grandchildren, Cheri (Wayne) Weis, Mari (Mike) Blanchard, and David (Wendy) Kough; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at McKinley United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kathleen Zielinski officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday after 1 p.m. at the church.

Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McKinley United Methodist Church.

Suzanne (Sue) Miner

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Suzanne (Sue) Miner, 47, of Chandler died Friday, Nov 14, 2008, at her home. Sue was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She loved crocheting, cooking, socializing and spending time with her family. She has worked for the Rogers Corporation in Chandler, TRW in Mesa, Ariz., and Rush Products in Rushford, Minn.

Sue was born on Dec. 9, 1960, in Winona to Willard and Jean Strain. On Aug. 20, 1983, she married Marshall Miner in Winona, where they lived for six years before moving to Chandler.

Sue leaves behind her husband, Marshall; blessed two sons, Chad and Kyle; mother, Jean Strain of Winona; brothers, David Keen, Richard Keen and Jeff Strain of Winona; sister, Nancy Todd of White Bear Lake, Minn.; in-laws, Morris and Grace Miner of Winona; sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Strain.

A memorial service for Sue will be held next summer in Winona.

Margaret Marcella Ness

SPRING GROVE, Minn. - Margaret Marcella Ness, 93, of Spring Grove passed away Nov. 17, 2008, at Tweeten/Lutheran Healthcare Center in Spring Grove.

Margaret was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Spring Grove to James G. and Maria H. (Tweeten) Landsom. She was a 1934 Mabel High School graduate.

On Nov. 28, 1940, she married James Ness. Margaret and James farmed near Riceford, Minn., for many years until moving to Spring Grove in 1977. James passed away on March 29, 2003.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and its women’s groups. Margaret enjoyed baking and flower gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith (Mel) Ruehmann of Decorah, Iowa; and her grandson, Mark Engebretson of St. Paul.

In addition to her husband, James, she was preceded in death by her brother, Julian Landsom.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Spring Grove. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Grove. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate.

Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Marcella Halama Amundson

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. - Marcella Halama Amundson, 92, of Independence died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home, Whitehall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. There will be a prayer service followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Friday.

Karyn M. Duane

Karyn M. Duane, 65, of Winona died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.

Arrangements being completed by Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Helen R. Nelson

Helen R. Nelson, 88, of Winona died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, Wis.

Arrangements are pending with Watkowski-Mulyck Funeral Home.

Olive I. Buswell

Olive I. Buswell, 95, of Winona died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Sauer Memorial Home, Winona.

Visitation 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. service Monday at McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona.

Burial in Oakland Cemetery, Minnesota City, Minn. Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.

Lelah V. Folstad

MABEL, Minn. - Lelah V. Folstad, 80, of Mabel died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Green Lea Manor Nursing Home, Mabel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hesper Lutheran Church, Hesper, Iowa. Burial will be in Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel and one hour prior to services at the church.
