Meth lab on wheels? Police looking for man who fled ambulance

.
A man found unconscious in a vehicle full of “chemicals and containers consistent with a meth lab” Saturday escaped from an ambulance and is on the run, Winona police said.

Narcotics investigators are following leads in the case and searching for the suspect, Deputy Chief Paul Bostrack said.

However, police are not releasing the name or the description of the man, citing an ongoing investigation.

Bostrack said an ambulance was called to the parking lot of Daniels Ace Hardware near the intersection of Second and Huff streets at 2:55 p.m., Saturday on a report of an unresponsive man in the front seat of a vehicle parked in front of a hardware store. The caller reported a strong odor of paint thinner coming from the vehicle as well.

Emergency crews loaded the man into the ambulance, but while apparently stopped for a red light at the intersection of Fourth and Huff streets, the man got out of the ambulance and took off, Bostrack said.

Officers checked out the silver two-door car and found several chemicals commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine in plain sight and more materials in the trunk. A professional clean-up crew was called in from Chicago to dispose of the hazardous materials, Bostrack said. He declined to say what kinds of chemicals were found. He said the car was impounded, and the investigation continues.

" Detail, details...I just hope they find this geek. Manufacturing rat poison for our children should be reclassified as capital murder and have a death penalty. A very slow, painful death penalty not unlike the one that their clients are sentenced to. Apparently he was his own best customer, good, I hope he's still running. "

" P: What makes you think no one was riding in back with the guy? Nothing in the article says the man was unconscious when he was put in the ambulance. What reason would they have to try to physically stop someone who wants to get away from them. There should have been a cop in the ambulance for that. "

" I have lived in Winona for a long time... and I have never seen this "... apparently stopped for a red light at the intersection of Fourth and Huff streets".
This must be a mistake fourth and huff does not contain a stop light!
I also wonder if there was a Paramedic in the back who opened the door... or did the two Paramedics just ride up front and neglect an unconscious person in the back? How do you just get away? How is the public able to help if we know nothing about the suspect!? "

" Are there no clean up crews in Minnesota/Minneapolis? Or, is it just a question of experience? "
