Abbey Staats and MacKenzie Brosnahan will be competing in
two events after qualifying Saturday in the Section 1AA meet finals.
Those two will be accompanied by Mary Bastian, Bridget Bawek and Angel Pingry at state, which begins with preliminaries at 6 p.m. Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center. Finals are at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Staats, the defending state champion in the 50-yard freestyle, again qualified in the event with a win and meet-record time of 23.46 seconds. She also won the 100 free (51.12).
Brosnahan also qualified in the 100 free with a third-place finish (53.8). Her other event will be the 200 free, after she took second in 1:58.65.
Mary Bastian made it with Staats in the 50 free. She took fourth (24.86).
Those three, along with Bawek, will also go in the 200 free relay after winning in 1:39.11. Staats, Bastian, Brosnahan and Angel Pingry will go in the 400 free relay after winning in a meet-record time of 3:36.96.
Staats was named the Section 1AA swimmer of the meet.
Teammate Sam Quandahl missed state by .7 seconds in the 100 butterfly with a sixth-place finish (1:00.97). She went to state in the same event last year.
