The plan calls for eliminating the two positions through attrition. Other labor cost reductions would include a summer intern position in University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension Services and elimination of a part-time public health nursing job that is currently vacant.
The budget package endorsed last week calls for transferring $30,000 from county general funds to 2009 revenues to avoid additional cutbacks in labor.
Updated information on the way the state calculates county tax levy limits led to a county board consensus to propose a $5.71 million county tax levy. Included in the tax levy is $67,000 to pay library fee bills and nearly $63,000 in county aid for town bridge projects in 2009.
The library and bridge costs were tallied to the county’s $5.6 million tax levy limit calculated by the state’s Department of Revenue.
The county board has no control over library fees, but the public does. District 6 County Supervisor David Eddy of Mondovi encouraged residents to use libraries in Buffalo County to eliminate fees the county pays when residents check out items from neighboring libraries. A state law permits public libraries to bill counties for materials checked out by non-residents.
