The Horace Mann Educators Corp. has a national school attendance program, and its local branch has started a pilot program at Franklin Elementary in Mankato.
A drawing each month includes the names of every student who registered no absences and no tardies.
From that pool, two students are drawn to receive new bicycles. A pizza party will be held in May for all students with perfect attendance for the year.
School officials says they can see the difference since the program started Oct. 1. Students hustle to get to class on time and even colds are becoming less frequent.
