A note to the new president

President-elect Obama: Today is a very special day in history because it is only now that people of all backgrounds and race can say, “We made history.”

And many thanks from Emmit Till, George Washington Carver, Medgar Evers, Booker T. Washington, Elijah McCoy, Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King, Madam CJ Walker, Frederick Douglass, Alex Haley, Thurgood Marshall, four unsuspecting young girls who did not know the danger they faced in the church in 1963; for every slave who arrived in 1619 in America on a slave ship that never tasted freedom, for every child that has been fatherless and poor in our country. You have enlightened so many to realize that Rosa sat so that Martin could walk, Martin walked so that Barack could run, Barack is running so that our children can fly.
This special thanks is from my dad, who would have been 91 years old this year and missed you by 27 years.
