The new bishop will succeed Bishop Bernard Harrington, who has served the diocese since his installation in January 1999. Harrington submitted his letter of resignation to the Vatican after his 75th birthday on Sept. 6, as required by church law. The appointment of his successor was made by Pope Benedict XVI.
A press conference to introduce the newly appointed bishop to the people of the diocese will be at 10 a.m today at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona.
