Edward A. Verdick
Edward A. Verdick, 96, of Minnesota City died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.

Ed was born Sept. 6, 1912, in Minnesota City, Minn., the son of August and Mary (Bilicki) Verdick. He was united in marriage with Evelyn M. Schell on June 16, 1936, at St. Casimir’s Church in Winona. Evelyn preceded him in death June 16, 2001.

Ed worked as an over-the-road semi driver for many years, and prior to his retirement in 1983, he worked as a crane operator for Winona area contractors. For 26 years, he served as the city constable of Minnesota City.

In his spare time, Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City, where he served as a trustee and an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Minnesota City Boat Club, Minnesota City Fire Department and the Eagle’s Club.

Ed is survived by his sister, Annie Brand of Lewiston, Minn.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four brothers and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Minnesota City. The Rev. Donald J. Lovas will officiate.

Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Rollingstone.

Friends may call at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Minnesota City today, Oct. 10, from 5 until 8 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Pallbearers will be Robert Bedtke, John Bedtke, Matt Jaeger and Charlie Meisch.

Michael Alois ‘Mike’ Ellringer

Feb. 11, 1959 — Oct. 8, 2008

ELBA, Minn. — Michael Alois “Mike” Ellringer, 49, of Elba died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Whitewater in St. Charles.

Mike was born Feb.11, 1959, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester to Bernard and Elaine Majerus Ellringer. He attended St. Charles High School. Mike became a quadriplegic as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident April 1, 1978.

Mike enjoyed cars, his dogs and watching TV. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba.

Survivors include his father, Bernard “Bear” Ellringer of Elba; his mother, Elaine Selke of Elba; and six siblings, Lynda (Wayne) Kroening of St. Charles, Marilyn (Jim Biers) of LeRoy, Pat (Patti) Ellringer of St. Charles, Dale Ellringer of Chester, Gina (Rick) Jones of Dover and Tim Selke of

St. Charles.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba, with the Rev. James F. Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jan. 29, 1931 — Oct. 7, 2008

RUSHFORD, Minn. — Mary “Kathy” Kirchhof, 77, of Rushford died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Kathy was born Jan. 29, 1931, to John and Mary (Roechers) Ladish in Kansas City, Kan. On Nov. 5, 1949, Kathy married Deland Kirchhof. Together, they farmed in the Rushford area for many years before retiring. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rushford.

Survivors include four children, Gary (Gwen) of Platteville, Iowa, Martin (Carol) of Desoto, Wis., Allen (Barb) of St. Charles, Minn., and Paula (Brent) Black of Pittsburgh, Pa.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Deland.

The funeral Mass for Kathy will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rushford, with the Rev. Greg Havel officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rushford.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Hoff Funeral Home-Rushford Chapel, with a prayer service following visitation on Sunday and also one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family prefers memorials to be directed to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rushford.

Robert Fitzgerald

Robert M. “Bob” Fitzgerald, 88, of Austin, Minn., and formerly of Jackson and Wabasha, Minn., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Felix Catholic Church, Wabasha. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery.

Friends may call at Abbott Funeral Home, Wabasha, today, from 4 to 7 p.m., where there will be a rosary service at 5 p.m. and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service.
