Prosecutors accuse Andrew D. Hanson, 24, of stabbing 49-year-old Monte Noren of Blair at Peterson’s Bar about 1 a.m. on Sept. 15.
Hanson is scheduled for an arraignment hearing Monday in front of Circuit Judge John Damon.
Police have released few details in the case, but a criminal complaint filed against Hanson says Noren was treated and released from Tri-County Memorial Hospital. Noren was allegedly stabbed as many as four times in the chest and arm with a 4-inch knife, according to the complaint.
Witness reports obtained by police suggested that Hanson taunted Noren twice at bars before the alleged stabbing. Witnesses also described threats made by Hanson, and investigating officers said he left two phone messages to Noren’s wife threatening her husband.
Hanson allegedly tossed a bloody knife over the bar, according to witness information given to police by a bartender at Peterson’s.
Trempealeau County District Attorney Jeri Marsolek is prosecuting the case. Hanson’s defense attorney is John Backman.
Hanson was being held in the Trempealeau County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bond.
