Brent Lee Williams, 23, was given credit for time served — 151 days since his arrest April 27 — and will not serve any more jail time. Other terms of Williams’ probation include no use of alcohol or controlled substances and no contact with the victim except through an attorney or custody hearings in court. If Williams violates his probation over the next five years, he could go to prison for 15 months.
Williams told the court he had plenty of time to think about the beating and wants to give up drugs and alcohol for good and be a better father to his young son.
Judge Jeff Thompson seemed impressed by some of Williams’ comments and wished him luck.
Williams admitted in May that he and his girlfriend got into an argument April 24 over custody of their children, and he “hauled off and hit her.” According to the criminal complaint, he hit the woman several times in the head, causing several facial fractures and temporary blindness in her right eye.
Williams’ brother, Dustin Troy Williams, 25, was convicted of assault for his involvement in the beating.
Brent Williams was released from the Winona County Jail after his sentencing hearing.
