Prep football roundup: Kukowski lifts Lewiston-Altura over St. Charles

LEWISTON, Minn. — Senior quarterback Cole Kukowski was efficient and the ground game was prolific for Lewiston-Altura High School’s football team.

Kukowski accounted for three touchdowns — two rushing, one passing — and the Cardinals piled up 275 rushing yards in a 33-18 victory over St. Charles Friday in the Three Rivers Conference North Division.
L-A’s Brandon Hammann rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries and Trevor Ruhoff 82 yards and a touchdown.

Kukowski finished 6 of 14 for 85 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. Kukowski took four carries for five yards and a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs.

Mitch Campbell rushed for 126 yards on 11 carries and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Matt Putzier for St. Charles.

L-A led 20-0 at halftime and 26-12 going into the fourth quarter.

P-E-M 35, W-K 22

WABASHA, Minn. — Plainview-Elgin-Millville racked up 421 rushing yards behind a pair of 100-yard rushers.

P-E-M’s Blaine Miller ran for 174 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries, scoring on runs of 1, 2 and 15 yards. Ross Grobe ran for 144 yards two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Zach Wolfe scored on an 89-yard kickoff return in the second quarter for Wabasha-Kellogg. Wolfe also caught five passes for 51 yards in addition to a two-point conversion reception.

W-K’s Sam Sletten rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

P-E-M’s Chadd Cordova converted all five extra points.

Southeast

Spring Grove 27, L-P 26

LYLE, Minn. — Chris Connelly rushed 23 times for 210 yards and two touchdowns and Cody Colsch had 21 rushes for 120 yards and a touchdown to lead Spring Grove.

For Lyle-Pacelli, Nate Williamson had 178 yards rushing and three touchdowns, including the touchdown that made the score 27-26, but L-P failed on a two-point conversion to go ahead.

Houston 56,

Grand Meadow 8

HOUSTON, Minn. — Trent Kerrigan had 112 yards rushing and three touchdowns to lead Houston, which had seven rushing touchdowns and 327 yards rushing as a team.

Caleb Lichtnam scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter for Grand Meadow.

The Hurricanes held the Superlarks to 122 total yards, including minus-2 yards passing.

Hiawatha Valley League

K-M 30, La Crescent 27

LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Bryan Ripley had two touchdown passes and two touchdown runs to lead Kasson-Mantorville, which scored 23 points in the first quarter.

Trent Traxler had two rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass, Brandon Verthein had 164 yards receiving and a touchdown and Andrew Helland had 113 yards receiving for La Crescent.

Dairyland

I/G 20, Alma 0

INDEPENDENCE, Wis. — Marty Guza had 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns and quarterback Ryan Guza had a rushing touchdown to lead Independence/Gilmanton.

The Indees intercepted two passes and held the Rivermen to 102 total yards.

C-FC 14, Whitehall 12

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. — Cochrane-Fountain City rode a 14-0 halftime lead to its first Dairyland Conference victory.

The Pirates (3-1, 1-1) scored all their points in the second quarter. Kevin Weis opened the scoring with a 20-yard run. Jesse Scheel later scored on a 5-yard run.

Whitehall rushed for 211 yards on 46 carries, while limiting C-FC to 122 yards of offense. But Whitehall had three turnovers to none by C-FC.

Kevin Berg rushed for 90 yards and Chad Stellpflug 82 for Whitehall.

Nonconference

River Valley 42,

Arcadia 20

RIVER VALLEY, Wis. — Scott Liegel had 105 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown and an interception return for a touchdown to lead River Valley.
