PREP ROUNDUP: Rockets rally to force tie with Winhawks

.
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Senior forward Deni Jerkic gave Winona Senior High School’s boys soccer team a one-goal lead each half, but Rochester John Marshall scored twice in the second

half Tuesday in a 2-2 overtime tie in the Big Nine Conference.
Though WSHS (6-0-1, 1-0-1) remains unbeaten, the tie snapped a six-game winning streak to start the season.

The tie snapped a five-game losing streak for Rochester John Marshall. The Rockets (0-5-1, 0-1-1) also scored for the first time this season.

“We came out in the second half and the look in their eyes wasn’t there,” WSHS coach Pete Weess said. “They just weren’t hungry like they have been in previous games.

Jerkic now has nine goals and six assists in seven games.

“Fifteen points in seven games,” Weess said. “That’s exceptional.”

Junior forward Cameron Weess assisted on Jerkic’s first-half goal, which put WSHS up 1-0, and is second on the team with 13 points (four goals, five assists). Senior midfielder Jose Garcia assisted on Jerkic’s second-half goal, which put the Winhawks up 2-1.

Winona goalkeeper Nick Ryan had eight saves.
