College Roundup: Florian lifts WSU over Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Senior forward Gina Florian scored in the sixth minute of overtime to lift the Winona State University women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win Sunday over Northern Michigan.

It was Florian’s first goal of the season for the Warriors, ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II. Lauren Sturdivant put WSU (3-1) up 1-0 with a first-half goal.
Warriors senior goalkeeper Amanda Diehm had four saves.

Men’s soccer

Puget Sound (Wash.) 4, Saint Mary’s 0

TACOMA, Wash. — The Cardinals were shut out for the first time this season in their second consecutive loss.

UPS (2-2) had 20 shots on goal, while SMU (1-3) managed just one. SMU goalkeeper Jon Szafranski had 16 saves.

Men’s golf

WSU at Bemidji State Invite

BEMIDJI, Minn. — John Anderson shot 74 and Ryan Peavey 75 as the Warriors finished the first round fifth overall heading into Monday’s final round.

WSU had four of its five golfers shoot in the 70s and shot 303 overall. St. John’s leads the 10-team invite at 287.

SMU at Augsburg Fall Invite

HUTCHINSON, Minn. — SMU shot finished 11th of 17 teams after the final round at Crow River Golf Course.

Tony Hynes shot 75 in each round to finish tied for fifth at seven-over-par.

Women’s golf

SMU at Concordia Invite

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — Cardinals sophomore Katelyn Rizzi and freshman Gia Puch each shot 181 over two rounds and tied for 26th.

SMU finished seventh overall at the 11-team invite.

WSU at Augustana Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — WSU’s Tara Christensen shot 78 and Megan Placko 79 to finish the first round of two inside the top-15 at the par-72 Bakker Crossing Golf Course.
