One truck found, another stolen

.
A rash of stolen vehicles in the area continued early Friday when a red pickup truck was reported stolen in Wabasha, Minn., not far from where a previously reported stolen vehicle was recovered.

A 1993 red Isuzu pickup truck with Minnesota plates NFK-777 was stolen about 1 a.m. in Wabasha, Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said. The truck has a black bed topper, a dent in the left fender and rust covering most of the body.
The red Isuzu was the eighth vehicle stolen from Winona and Wabasha counties in the past month.

A previously reported stolen 2006 black Ford F-150 pickup truck with license plates SLOCUM was recovered in the parking lot of the Wabasha Kwik Trip on Hiawatha Drive, near where the Isuzu was stolen, Brand said. Police are checking video surveillance footage at the Kwik Trip.

The theft fits a pattern police reported earlier this week: Someone steals a vehicle, abandons it and steals another nearby vehicle.

Several vehicles are yet to be recovered, including a:

Red Honda LX Coupe, license XEB-639

1995 green Ford Explorer, license XVL-992

Black Jeep Cherokee, license HRG-641

Police urge anyone with information about the thefts or the missing vehicles to call the Winona Area Crime Stoppers at (507) 457-6530. A cash reward is being offered for information leading to a resolution of the crimes.

Kevin Behr may be reached at (507) 453-3524 or at kbehr@winonadailynews.com.
