The girls finished second out of 14 teams with 69 points and had five girls finish in the top 20. The boys finished seventh out of 15 teams with 195 points.
For the girls, Claire Guidinger finished first overall with a time of 14 minutes, 21 seconds. Guidinger finished 20 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
“Claire was one of the fastest runners in the history of the meet,” Winhawks coach John Ruggeberg said. “She ran a strong race from gun to tape.”
Guidinger’s teammates didn’t finish far behind. Kayla Ewert (15:21) finished 13th, Rena Dornfield (15:25) finished 16th, Jessica Young (15:33) finished 19th and Cherisse Wolvington (15:41) finished 20th.
“Anytime you put five runners in a meet of this calibur, you can’t help but feel good about the direction the team is going in,” Ruggeberg said. “We were a good team last year and we’ve improved a great deal this year.”
In boys action, Jon-Michael Brandt (16:02) finished second to lead WSHS.
“Jon-Michael Brandt ran an excellent race,” Ruggeberg said. “He had a good strong kick at the end to finish second.”
Sam Miner (17:12) finished 37th, Ian Nelson (17:18) finished 42nd and Erik Chapman (17:24) finished 47th.
