" Sounds like some one has a crush sparkles; I am flattered. The problem with your thinking though is that you are so sure you are right that you are unable to give the idea any more thought; hence you insist on my ignorance. Belief is the death of intelligence Sparkles.
Do you honestly think alcohol isnt worse than pot, shrooms and LSD? Do you not see any point in my argument? I do not blame the people who sell drugs; I dont even blame the people who use drugs. I blame the people who use drugs and act a fool. I blame the criminal justice system for taking an approach that has failed miserably. The war on drugs is a failure. It is like digging yourself into a hole and asking for another shovel. "

" It is funny and true that countries with lesser drug penalties have less crime. Figure that one out. Kinda blows away your argument. By the way the USA has more people in prison per capita than any other country in the world! "

If stupidity and ignorance was a crime- You'd be felon serving LIFE with NO parol in prison. "

" There are many things that correlate to crime, like greed, opportunity, or just plain bad wiring. I must wonder about how many of those crimes you speak of, if the drug involved was in fact alcohol. Secondly, bars and liquor stores are NEVER held responsible for an alcoholic parent neglecting or abusing their children or for drunken vandals tearing up what is not theirs, or a drunken assault and battery, and very seldom a DUI, and only then of someone is killed, and even that is rare. Or even some one destroying the lives of themselves and everyone around them with alcohol. Come to think of it, alcohol is far worse that pot, acid, or shrooms. Why dont we legalize them and maybe criminalize alcohol? Or just decriminalize everything? "

" Thank you CaptnTony!
Plus may I add that in some situations- YES-a bar or liquor store CAN be held responsible for an accident that their customer's may cause! There are SEVERE penalties for bartender's who serve patrons alchol when they are already extremely intoxicated. I'm not up on the whole bartending "rules" or laws- but I do know that they can be charged if investigations show they were at fault- or partially at fault! "

" CONTINUED....
Overall-41% of violent crimes committed against college students and 38%of nonstudents were committed by an offender on drugs.About 2 in 5 of all rapes and sexual assaults were also committed by someone on drugs. These are FACTS-You can look them all up-and more on thewebsite I've provided above. So once again-Do not tell me that there is no VICTIM when it comes to drugs and drug dealing! "

" SpiritCosmo-I agree with you in the fact that people need to take responsiblity for their actions-and that people can commit various crimes by other means other than drugs BUT.There is a PROVEN correlation between crime and drugs.According to the U.S Dept of Justice-www.ojp.usdoj.gov in 2004 17% of state prisoners and 18%of federal inmates admit to committing their crime(s)in order to obtain money for drugs. This is not including the prisoners who had committed crimes due to other drug relations-such as use,etc.Also- these are stats from 2004.The crime rate has NOT dropped since then-it's only gotten worse, so that 17% and 18% could be much highernow. In 2006 there were 14,990 drug-related homicides committed as well! Once again-that is 2006- this is 2008 I bet the numbers are much higher today. "

" spirit...what are you talking about? Dealing drugs has been deemed ILLEGAL, selling liquor to adults has not been (recently). If that same person sold liquor to a minor, there would indeed be penalties to pay. You need better support than that for your assertion that selling drugs is a victimless crime. "
spiritcosmo wrote on Sep 5, 2008 1:54 PM:
" I must say sparkle that by that rationale one could argue that every liquor store clerk in the country should go to prison because the guy he sold a bottle to got drunk and neglected his children, lost his job, beat his wife in a drunken stupor, got in his car and killed a family of 5. Im not even going to mention gun dealers and shooting deaths, or porn store clerks and rape. How about a little personal responsibility?
In short no one is responsible for you actions. If I sell you a bag of pot and you eat a box of Oreos and gain 5 pounds, dont tell Jenny Graig it was me. "

" What are you talking about SpiritCosmo!?! NO VICTIM!!!
Do you not see the correlation between drugs and crime!? Of course there are victims in this! What about the children who are being neglected or abused because of their parents druge usage? And if those parent's drug habbits are being supported by this Goodwin guy- the children ARE indeed victims!!! Direct or indirect victims it does not matter. How about burgluries? Many of these occur to get drug money! If YOUR house is burglurized by someone who buys drugs from Goodwin- you too would be a victim! WAKE UP! "

" Yeah I doubt he agreed to go to prison. Sent, forced, dragged kicking and screaming maybe, but agreed? I for one hope he doesnt have to go to prison AT ALL, I hope he gets house arrest and community service. Give him enough rope to hang himself with, or if he chooses, enough rope to pull himself up with. Something where he can pay for his own detention instead of having the taxpayers do it. And besides, prison is nothing more than a criminal college, most people get out of prison and our even more of a detriment to society; from a petty criminal into a severe danger. Save the prisons for the ones who harm other people. No victim, no prison. "
