Objections to drilling in ANWR is that it is a pristine area. If that barren wasteland is pristine, then so is the Arabian desert, where oil is recovered. I don’t see tour groups being organized for tours to ANWR.
I get the impression from objectors to drilling for oil that we should be 100 percent independent of oil. A significant percentage of oil is used for other products, such as plastics and Vaseline.
Present alternative uses of energy have limited promise so far. Ethanol is corrosive. Solar panels and windmills take a large footprint of many acres. When the sun doesn’t shine and the wind dies down, oil has to be used continuously as a backup for turbines. Brownouts are likely to occur. Turbines just can’t be fired up and go to maximum power immediately.
We need to develop alternative fuels, but in the meantime, we also must drill for more domestic oil. Other alternatives that are being researched may show more promise, but that is another topic for later discussion.
Many believe that global warming is caused by too much carbon dioxide. We need carbon dioxide so plants and trees can produce oxygen through osmosis. I read that warming of the atmosphere increases carbon dioxide, the reverse of common beliefs.
Nancy Pelosi wants to save the planet, but she is not God.
God is responsible for the earth’s climate, not any human being. That includes warming and cooling of the earth. He expects us to be wise stewards of the blessings he has given us on earth. The U.S. has done a lot better job than other countries in reducing water and air pollution.
Walz has marched in lockstep with Pelosi, who has weird ideas, But what can you expect of a liberal from San Francisco?
