Muriel D. Lisowski
MONDOVI, Wis. — Muriel D. Lisowski, 80, of Mondovi died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Luther Hospital from complications following surgery.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Galesville, Wis., a daughter of the late Martin and Corrine (Colley) Mahutga.

On Nov. 20, 1946, Muriel was united in marriage to Jacob P. “Jake” Lisowski at the Catholic Church in Arcadia, Wis. Jake preceded Muriel in death on April 12, 1997.

Muriel and her husband farmed in Trempealeau County until 1952, when they relocated to California, where other than being a loving mom, she worked at J.C. Penney. In 1971, Muriel moved back to Buffalo County, Alma, Wis., specifically where she was a farmhand and later was employed at the Winona Knitting Mills until the mid 1980s.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Mondovi. She volunteered her time at several places such as the senior center and the thrift store, both in Mondovi.

She loved to make quilts and bake breads and goodies. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards at the senior center in Mondovi.

Muriel will be sadly missed by her five sons, Richard (Vicky) Lisowski of Valley Springs, Calif., Robert (Peggy) Lisowski of Hendricks, Minn., Duane (Debbie) Lisowski of Mondovi, Michael (Donna) Lisowski of Huxley, Iowa, Steve (Lisa) Lisowski of Gilmanton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mavis Pierzina of Arcadia and Shirley Mahutga of Mountain View, Calif.; one brother, James (Lois) Muhutga of Carrington, N.D.; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband Jake, one infant brother, La Verne, preceded Muriel in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mondovi, with Father Jeffrey Burrill as celebrant. Burial of cremains will take place at Alma Memorial Cemetety at a later date. A time of visitation and support will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home of Mondovi, and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the Mass. Lois E. Johnson

CALEDONIA, Minn. — Lois E. Johnson, 80, of Caledonia died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.

She was born April 30, 1928, in Caledonia, to Albert and Benerva (Berquam) Myhre. Lois was a 1946 graduate of Caledonia High School. On Dec. 18, 1948, she married Ronald Johnson at Wilmington Lutheran Church, and they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.

Survivors include her husband, Ron; five children, Lynda (Leslie “Ed“) Stokke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rebecca (David) Sampsel of Prior Lake, Minn., Patty (Richard) Groshong of Marion, Iowa, David Johnson of La Crosse, and Dawn Johnson of Rochester, Minn.; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Sylvia Ward of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bernice (Bill) Ostern of Spring Valley, Minn., Franny (Terry) Link of Onalaska, Wis., and Katie (Jerald) Holland of Austin, Minn.; one brother, Neil Morey of Caledonia; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Myhre of Caledonia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merle and Catherine Johnson and Imy and Bill Dorival, all of Caledonia, and Harold and Mary Johnson of Shakopee, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Douglas and Robert Johnson; one brother, Albert Myhre; one brother-in-law, Robert Ward; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Morey.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. The Rev. Steven E. Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church and on Sunday from noon until the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, is in charge of arrangements.

Sonia (Urbick) Raab

OXFORD, Wis. — Sonia (Urbick) Raab, 53, of Oxford passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in the comfort of her own home with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 11 a.m. at Oxford Funeral Home in Oxford, with Pastor Mike Gormican officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Sonia was born in Arcadia, the daughter of Lambert and Clarice (Bjorge) Urbick. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1973. On Feb. 22, 1975, Sonia was united in marriage to Richard Raab. Sonia loved sewing for her daughters and traveling, and she is now on her new eternal life adventures.

Sonia is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Richard “Dick”; and daughters, Crystal (Joshua) Thays of Madison, Wis., and Jennifer Raab of Oxford; sisters, Joyce Moe and Betty Jane Knutson, both of Arcadia, Wis., and Sharon (Bob) Byrne of Trempealeau, Wis.; brothers, Larry (Jan) Urbick of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Roger Urbick of Whitehall, Wis., and Lambert “Herbie” (Sally) Urbick of Trempealeau; granddaughter, Roz Thays; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brother-in-law, Howard Knutson; and a nephew, Robert Byrne.

Marie Horton

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. — Marie Horton, a resident of Fountain View Village, Fountain Hills, entered the home of the Lord on Aug. 22, 2008, at age 88. She was born on April 13, 1920, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Ed and Irene Graham and died of pancreatitis at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Tom) Davie, Fountain Hills; sons Bert (Nancy) Horton, Elk River, Minn., and John Horton, Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren Mark (Sandy) Davie, Andrew Horton, Curtis (Ashle) Horton and Bristol Horton; and great-grandsons Jake and Josh Davie.

Marie was preceded in death by son Richard in 1997, and siblings John, Kathryn, Joe and Irene Graham.

Marie graduated from the Visitation Academy, Dubuque, in 1938, and the College of St. Teresa, Winona, 1942, with a B.A. in sociology. She married Robert S. Horton on March 6, 1943, at Fort Snelling Chapel, Minneapolis. and lived in St. Paul, Faribault and Bemidji, Minn., prior to settling in Winona in 1946, where she lived until moving to Fountain Hills in 1998. She loved Winona, the Mississippi River and owned a summer home in Trempealeau, Wis., for many years.

Marie was a very active volunteer in Winona. She was councilwoman-at-large from Jan. 1, 1978, until Dec. 31, 1985, and her campaign goal was “to create a better Winona to live in, to work in, to recreate in, to be educated in, to worship in, and to live peacefully.” She was the first woman appointed to the Winona Housing and Redevelopment Authority Commission and served as secretary from 1967 to 1977. She was a board member of the American Red Cross, chairwoman of the Red Cross Bloodmobile, president of the College of Saint Teresa alumnae association, president of the Winona Alumnae Chapter of the College of St. Teresa, member of the College of St. Teresa Board of Trustees, member of the Community Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, member of the board of directors with St. Anne’s Hospice, charter member and president of the League of Women Voters, President of the A.A.U.W., volunteer social worker at Winona Memorial Hospital and president of the Mt. Trempealeau Association.

Marie was recipient of the city of Winona Community Service Award, 1985, College of St. Teresa Alumnae Citation, 1984, Certificate of Appreciation, Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 1976, Winona Woman of the Year, 1956 and 1958, and many Bridge Marathon awards.

Marie’s Christian faith was very important to her, and she has been described as a prayer warrior. She led many prayer groups and was a student of the Bible. She was a very caring person and had a deep love for God, family and friends.

Memorial services will be held Sept. 13 in Fountain Hills and at 11 a.m. on Oct. 4, at Living Light Church, Winona, followed by lunch.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Home Missions of Fountain Hills Christian Center or the Arizona Transplant House, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Ruth Ann Tritz

Ruth Ann Tritz, 74, of Fond du Lac, Wis., died at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, after an 18-year courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Her husband was her constant, conscientious caregiver.

Ruth was born on March 20, 1934, in Waumandee, Wis., the third daughter of Matt and Sarah (Rippley) Pronschinske. She was a teacher when she was united in marriage to Harold (Hal) Tritz on Aug. 9, 1969, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia, Wis.

Ruth is lovingly survived by her husband, Hal of Fond du Lac; her sons, Donald, at home, Kevin and friend Lori White, Princeton, N.J.; and her daughter, Karen (David) Furukawa of Baltimore.

Other survivors include her sisters, Jane Sendelbach, Arcadia, Maxine Sendelbach, Madison, Wis., and Kay (Gary) Doelle, Fountain City, Wis.; and her brothers, Edward (Bea) Pronley and Carl (Kathy) Pronley, both of Brookfield, Wis., and Mark (Shirley) Pronschinske, Arcadia; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Sendelbach and Anton (Tony) Sendelbach.

Ruth wanted her body donated to the College of Medical Science of Wisconsin. There will be no visitation or funeral. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.

Isabell Josephine Prochowitz

Isabell Josephine Prochowitz, 97, formerly of 627 E. Second St., Winona, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.

Isabell was born on March 19, 1911, in Pine Creek, Wis., the daughter of John and Frances (Scharmach) Pelowski. She was united in marriage with Philip Prochowitz on Oct. 11, 1937. He preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1962.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and its St. Elizabeth’s Guild.

Isabell is lovingly survived by her daughter, Ruth Marie Sasscer, Takoma Park, Md.; grandson, Richard (Shellie) Sasscer, Aurora, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Sasscer; grandson, Philip Sasscer, Dundalk, Md.; granddaughter, Michelle (Robert) Sasscer-Lindsay, Chevy Chase, Md.; sisters Henrietta Theis, Winona, Marcella Schlesser, Galesville, Wis., and Helen Drazkowski, Fountain City, Wis.; brother William (Lois) Pelowski, Buffalo City, Wis.; many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends which include Nellie Lee Powell, Takoma Park, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Joyce Prochowitz; parents; brothers Chester, Florian and Roy Pelowski; and an infant brother, Joseph Pelowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

The Rev. Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Winona.

Friends may call from noon until the time of the Mass on Sunday, Aug. 31, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

In lieu of flowers, Isabell’s family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to St. Anne Extended Healthcare, or to the donor’s choice.
