Sarah Rose Davis, 27, was charged Aug. 12 with 13 counts of felony possession of drugs through fraud. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Police first became involved with forged prescriptions on March 12 at the Kmart pharmacy, according to the criminal complaint. An employee there thought the dosage on an Oxycodone prescription was too high, and the Winona Clinic confirmed it had been forged, the complaint shows.
On May 2, an officer spoke with an employee of the Women’s Health Department at the Winona Clinic, who reported that Davis was passing more forged prescriptions at Target and Walgreens. The employee had copies of five prescriptions filled at each store between Feb. 7 and May 2 and said the forms were outdated and clearly forged, according to the complaint. The clinic acknowledged writing an Oxycodone prescription for Davis in January but hadn’t done so since, documents show.
Police were called to the HyVee pharmacy on May 5 after an employee there noticed a prescription for 90 Oxycodone tablets was printed on the wrong type of paper. Video surveillance showed Davis getting the prescription.
Police were also sent to Walgreens the next day on a report of a prescription passed by Davis that was signed off by a person who wasn’t working that day, according to the complaint.
Investigators met with Davis on May 21 and she admitted passing forged prescriptions at Walgreens, Target and Kmart on at least six different occasions, documents show. She said she didn’t remember going to HyVee but that it was “entirely possible” she passed a prescription there, according to the complaint.
Police said she told investigators that she had been struggling with addiction for “quite a while.” She said her January prescription didn’t allow for refills, so she scanned the form into her home computer, allowing her to freely write prescriptions as she pleased.
Davis was not arrested and has been summoned to appear in court Sept. 11.
