Ridgeway was booming, threshing was productive, children’s games and kiddie tractor pull were exciting, the barbecued chicken was delicious, antique tractors were abundant, music was toe-tapping, craft fairs provided good shopping, and the cemetery walk was informative.
These activities provided an opportunity to glimpse what life was like in the Ridgeway area 150 years ago. Those interested in reading the entire script of the 2007 and 2008 cemetery walks can do so soon at the Sesquicentennial page of the Ridgeway Community School Web site: www.ridgewayschool.org.
This celebration happened with hard work and support of many. The volunteers came from the Pleasant Hill Township officers; Ridgeway volunteer firefighters; Ridgeway Community school staff, teachers, parents and children; and the community.
Other organizations supporting the celebration were: Midtown foods, Swiss Valley Farms, Express-A-Button, Erdmann Trucking, Pepsi-Cola of La Crosse, Ag Specialists at Wilson, Bergie’s Bar & Grill, Blumentritt Land Surveying P. C., Embroidery Unlimited, Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator Co., Ironcraft, Hoskins Electric Inc., Jaastad Property Appraisals, Jim Larson Producers Hybrids, M B Welding and Repair Inc., Pleasant Hill Wood Products (Michael Aldinger), and Arlene Roraff Painting and Decorating.
The cemetery walk was financed in part with funds provided by the state of Minnesota through the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission’s Grants Program.
