Prep baseball: Mustangs blank Pirates

MELROSE, Wis. — The No. 10 seeded Cochrane Fountain High School baseball team, the lowest seed to reach the WIAA Sectional 1 regional finals, lost 8-0 Monday at Melrose-Mindoro.

Johnny Mulholland hit a two-run double to highlight a four-run second inning for M-M. The Mustangs added three runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Pirates starter Dylan Cieminski pitched a complete game and struck out five in the loss.

C-FC’s Justin Scheel went 2-for-2 with a double.

Whitehall 4, G-E-T 1

WHITEHALL, Wis. — James Gilbertson delivered an RBI double as Whitehall took the lead for good with a two-run bottom of the fifth inning.

Gilbertson also notched a complete-game victory, holding Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau to four hits and four walks, while striking out nine in seven innings.

Kevin Berg had an RBI single for Whitehall in the sixth.
