Top-seeded Stewartville-Racine got a four-hitter from Jade Boettcher in getting a 10-0, seven-inning win Sunday.
Stewartville-Racine (21-3) moves on to the state tournament, while the Chiefs (15-10) will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Owatonna and Kasson, which will be played on Wednesday.
If Owatonna wins Wednesday, the Chiefs will have to play on the road Friday. Winona defeated Owatonna last Friday 2-1. If Kasson wins, Winona will host. The Chiefs defeated Kasson 2-1 last Wednesday.
If the Chiefs win Friday, they too will move on to the state tournament. The last time Winona went to state was 2006.
Against S-R, the Chiefs couldn’t capitalize with runners in scoring position early. Winona left runners on second in the third and fourth innings when it was a 1-0 game, and then, down 4-0, Winona left runners on second and third to end its half of the fifth.
Joe McGee was 3-for-5 and Boettcher went 3-for-4 to lead S-R.
