Police use Taser to catch drug suspect

.
Police used a Taser to bring a man into custody on a felony drug warrant Wednesday after he fled officers on foot.

Dylan Thomas McKenzie, 27, was arrested on charges of felony and petty misdemeanor-level possession of marijuana. He was also ticketed for obstruction and fleeing police, according to police.
Judge Mary Leahy released McKenzie on his own recognizance Thursday morning, despite McKenzie failing to appear in court in June and a recent move without notifying court administration.

According to the police report, officers went to McKenzie’s mother’s home in the 450 block of West Fourth Street about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to execute the warrant. They found McKenzie sitting on the back porch, and as they approached, he went into the house and ran out the front door.

Police chased and yelled several times for McKenzie to stop. He refused, yelling back that he would not go to jail, Deputy Chief Paul Bostrack said. McKenzie eventually turned around and began running back to the house, but a deputy shocked him with a Taser just before he got inside, police say.

McKenzie was arrested and brought to the Winona County Jail.

Great and miraculous things happen when people come together with an intention to create hope and opportunity.

" Stems and seeds is not a felony. That would be a petty misdemeanor and a petty misdemeanor isn't even a crime. It's a civil forfeiture. You should get it right just like WDN. "

" AND POT HEADS:

STOP DOING CRIME!! Stop your criminal activities or stop doing dope! You are really making everyone look bad!! "

" I will of course have to chime in on this....
So now we are busting down doors on hearsay and zapping potheads senseless. Why don't we just let them smoke dope? I bet it does less harm than electrocuting them. Scum bag or not stop wasting our time and money on this! What a complete waste of resources, these officers could have been helping some change a tire or clean up the streets from all the litter the real scumbags leave behind. "

" Yes you can be charged with a felony for stems, since that's what they are doing. Of course when it gets to court, the charges will either be dropped or changed to a lower charge. It's just the cops in this town like to charge with the highest they can. They only yelled his name once! And he didn't show up in court because he tried to change the date and the administrator told him to call back at noon, which he did and then was told of the warrant. Too bad the paper doesn't get everything in and the truth. "

" If all he has was "stems and seeds" why didn't he appear in court? If all he had was "stems and seeds" why did he take off running? How many times do the police have to yell his name...while he is running? How did that taser feel? Did he learn a valuable lesson? "

" The drug charges: they broke his door down because someone told the cops he was selling drugs; they found stems and seeds on the floor and nothing else. The cops only called his name once, he was tased in a neighbors yard, not going back to his mothers. He never yelled that he wasn't going to jail. His warrant was only for failure to appear. Now you know the truth. And you can always ask the neighbors that saw and heard everything. "
