Project FINE gets Blue Cross Foundation grant

Project FINE (Focus on Integrating Newcomers through Education), a non-profit organization with offices in Winona and St. Charles, received a $100,000 grant from the Blue Cross Foundation for the youth program Diversity Youth Quest.

Diversity Youth Quest is the only program in Winona County designed specifically for middle and high school-aged youth from newly arrived immigrant and refugee families. The project assists the community’s newcomers who don’t have the benefit of parents who are knowledgeable about American society and culture. The five main focus areas are: mental health, physical health, social acculturation, cultural identity formation and academic prosperity. Diversity Youth Quest is entering its second year, having reached more than 75 young people during the 2007-08 pilot year.
The Blue Cross Foundation, based in Eagan, Minn., is the philanthropic arm of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota.
